Arctic Radio Concept

Product Environment Study

Short project to study relationships between a Product and it's environment. The brief was to design a portable radio intended for use in arctic conditions.

The main considerations were the usability issues caused by large thermal gloves, durability in the extreme environment and portability. The controls are split into 3 widely spaced buttons allowing easy access and reducing the possibility of pushing multiple controls at once with a glove. The product is intended to strap to the back of the hand for easy access while still allowing use of the hand. The design reminiscent of a pebble or stone carving, the symbols used inspired by runes to give a unique appearance that reflects its environment.
